Accessory Dwelling Unit - Denver / Littleton

Tyler Hardy
Posted

I'm considering building an ADU on my property (I have confirmed the zoning), but was looking for advice and help amongst my peers. Foremost I was looking for reliable contractors, and secondly, any advice from those who are doing or have done this.

Thanks!

@Tyler Hardy - ADU's are tough - long time getting the permit, finding a competent GC and @Matt M. is right about the price range.

Many GC's won't touch ADU's or if they do, you'll get a big change order. I talked with someone a few weeks ago who finished getting a permit for an ADU, but then got a 100k change order from their GC!

I forget the exact stat, but a GC who builds ADU's said over a ~5 year period in Denver, only 4 or 5 contractors pulled more than one ADU permit. What does that tell you? Most GC's get beat up when building an ADU.

Only work with a GC who has experience in building ADU's. They know what needs to be done.

Reach out to Vern Robinson at Ridge Construction. He knows ADU's! I'm not sure if I can post contact details on the BP forum.
