As a true beginner in real estate investing, is short term vacation rentals a good route to start?

Like most real estate questions, the answer is it depends.

Do you also want to use the property for you and your family?

Do you want to put in the extra work over what a Long term rental takes?

Do you want to worry about changing laws and regulations on STR's?

I personally have STR and LTRs and I would advise you get your feet wet with a LTR first to get some general experience managing a property.
