Section 8 rental and pets?

Robert Hernandez
Posted

Hello BP family,

I have a unit I am looking to rent out to a lady on vouchers for disability. My dilemma is my unit has carpet and the lady has a dog (poodle). What has your experience been with dogs in rentals particularly where the entire flooring is carpet?

IF I had tile i would not have an issue. This area is in a "C" class neighborhood. The rental is clean and I want to leave it that way. Thank you!

You can't guarantee the human will keep it clean so adding the dog really isn't much different. Good tenants take care of their pets; bad tenants don't. Find a way to mitigate the risk like increasing the rent $50 a month ($600 a year) for the poodle.

I'm more disturbed by a government welfare system that provides housing assistance to someone that continues to own an animal that costs more than a month's worth of rent and makes it more difficult to find affordable housing. If people want a handout from the tax payer, they should be required to make a few sacrifices themselves.

Exactly . Plenty of money for dog food pet care cigarettes and beer but nothing for rent so they rely on Uncle Sam ( aka Johnny tax payer)
