Buying Rental Property While Working Overseas.

Lauren Ashe
Posted

Hi Everybody,

I'm at the beginning/research phase of investing into rental properties and I'm looking to purchase a multifamily property in my hometown of Pittsburgh, PA. I have about 40k saved and Im itching to to get started. The only thing that is holding me back is my current work situation. While my current residence is in Pittsburgh, I work the majority of the year overseas and come home about two months out of the year. I plan on working overseas for the next two to three years like this. My questions is would it be possible to purchase a duplex while out of the country and what would be the best way to go about it?

Respectfully,

Lauren

@Lauren Ashe it is absolutely possible. Just like investing OS. Keep it simple, and don't take any shortcuts; buy in or near Pittsburg, or some place else where you have familiarity and connections, set yourself up with a local RE agent and interview some PM's, you can do a lot over the internet from anywhere, but focus on seeing properties during your periods in the US. Get the property inspected and make sure you see the units inside yourself. Your success will depend on your RE agent and especially the PM make sure they are up to the task and you can work with them. All the best!
