Is it worth hiring a lawyer?

A family member is trying to sell the house and had it inspected. They were told the house needs rewiring. A few years back (2003) a contractor, referred by the insurance company after a kitchen fire, sub contracted an electrician (paid in full but never got a receipt) but the main contractor was always threatening to lien their house. He never itemized the contract, he never put he last name on the paperwork and never signed. They have the the name of the company. They also never got back all of the houseware/clothes back from the fire which included pieces handed down from family members. With receipts not being there and from them being in a small town, I doubt this is something that could be fought with lawyers. They now have to find the money to re-wire the house that should’ve been done back in 2003. The insurance company hasn’t updated house information since 1993 and won’t help tracking down contractors or their household goods after the fire. I was wondering if there was any hope.

@Nancy Sims

17 years later seems to be a stretch. I think you would end up throwing more $ at the attorney than you would rewiring the house
