Women’s Mastermind Groups?

Question

Anyone know of any mastermind groups for women investing in real estate? Nothing against all you men out there but I’m all about women empowering women lol!

There's nothing wrong with wanting to help women, but then you are missing out on 70% of investors that happen to be male. If you really want to "empower" women, you would put them where they are most likely to be successful. That means you'll put them in the best Mastermind you can find, not one limited to people with a particular chromosome.

The same goes for people creating groups specifically for a certain race, religion, etc. What would have happened if Jackie Robinson only played baseball with other colored people? He empowered blacks by being the best he could be in the open market, not by creating a private club and limiting himself to only those that looked like him.

Just $0.02 from a guy that wouldn't be allowed in your club, so take it for what it's worth. ;)

I can honestly say reading the response from some people simply proves your point. Besides getting together as women only group does not make it mutually exclusive. I can belong to women only, men and women, one legged group. I will mostly likely learn very different valuable lessons from the three groups. And by the way Jackie Robison mostly likely excelled because he played with blacks only in the beginning. He started  with an environment that nurtured him and not butchered him. All the reason later in life he could stand there and take all the abuse he did. My 0.5 cent and please keep in mind English is not my mother. Sign me up!

I completely agree with you Shauna.  My husband and I were in a co-ed mastermind group for a year.  It was great but after I had our son I had a hard time in the group because my priorities shifted from being work focused to full time mom mode.  I didn't want to spend a week away from my newborn and the environment wasn't great for bringing him along.  I am now expecting my second child so it really isn't feasible for me to be in a traditional for several more years.

Being a female investor has very different challenges that most men will never experience.  I have had lenders only respond to emails from my husband even though I have a Master's degree in Finance and he knows very little about our loans.

I'm in the process of starting a mastermind group for women/moms that will include families/kids.  My plan is to host the semiannual retreats at kid friendly places (like Great Wolf Lodge) so that the dads or other family can play with the kiddos while the moms are in morning meetings and spend the afternoons/evenings with our families.  Yes, this does ignore probably 90% of the market because it is so specialized but I know I need a group of women/moms and I know I'm not the only one.  Juggling work and family is incredibly hard especially with little kids but it is possible and I want to do it with strong women by my side.

While I appreciate the need for diversity and networking across groups, I think you are assuming that because women want to associate and network with one another in a mastermind group, that we wouldn't ever network outside the group. I think we should also acknowledge that sometimes coming into a world that is majority men (70% as you pointed out) isn't empowering to women at all. In fact, it can be very disempowering to be the only female in a group with all these men talking over you and excluding you from the conversation (and this happens a lot to many of us.)

I'm certain that we all hope to break into the majors like Jackie and take advantage of every opportunity at our disposal, but that doesn't mean that learning from other women who have already had success wouldn't be extremely valuable for many of us.

That's very funny. Women only, that means "no threat to succeed"

It's like saying "I want to associate only with people who paint by putting a paintbrush in their toes". Yes, there are those that do paint by toe, but the successful ones use all of their resources. Make friends with those who have money and are successful and have connections to make then successful, some (almost all) of them are men. ;-) Before you blow a gasket, I've been married to a wonderful woman for over 40 years. She recognizes that we both have gifts for the other one. That is what real estate is, a mutual endeavor.

But, if you are convinced that is the way to achieve your goals, more power to you.

But, stop hating men. It stunts your development in real estate. Just sayin'

I think its a great group and respect so many of the guys that affiliate with it. But why do women get pushback when they want to do something similar?
