Game rooms/arcadea return for STR

Aaron Washington
Posted

As some of you know, my wife and I are in the process of purchasing a vacation home in the Davenport area. We are planning to rent it out as an STR when we are not there. While looking at other STRs around the area we noticed many have converted the garage or another room to an arcade/game room. My question is, is it worth the investment to convert the garage into a game room? If so, what are some good inexpensive arcade machines and/or game tables the renters like? If not, are there non-construction options that would be a better return on investment?

For those that came here to say convert it to a bedroom. Right now we are only interested in non-construction options. For reference, it is a 4 bed 3 bath home. We may consider converting it to a bedroom in the future though probably not for a while.

Thanks in advance,

Aaron

My 2 cents is that for non-sleeping areas, hot tubs, pool tables and movie rooms are top amenities that guest have personally told me they like the best.

I think an outdoor rated pool table (or maybe ping pong table), TV and comfortable seating would likely be the best bang for your buck. Firepit close to garage door (but not too close).
