Adding Hot Tub to STR

Kevan Clarke
Posted

I am looking for recommendations for Hot Tub's that are great for STR's. It is important I get one that is robust and has an ozone generator as well as remote control in order to control it from Chicago.

Does anyone have any hot tub suggestions or advice?

Before you do it, consider whether your competition has them, whether people have asked for them or you have lost considerable business (that you can quantify) without one, and how much more you expect to make. I have a pretty new tub at my personal house, that is a salt-water tub so I don't need to do anything with chlorine, and honestly it's still a hassle to keep up with. No way would I have one at my STR - in fact my caretakers told me there's a couple of other houses they have that have them, and they are the #1 complaint generator of the guests in all the houses they oversee. I have a pool at my STR and in comparison between taking care of my pool, and taking care of my hot tub, the pool wins hands down. Drop a stack of chlorine tablets in the container by the pump, once a week the caretakers brush down the sides and check the skimmer basket and do any balancing, and that's it. My hot tub is supposed to be drained, cleaned and refilled no less than every 4 months and more if you have more people using it, and because there's built in seats everywhere you need a shop vac to get all the old water out, have to climb in it to clean it, etc.

So my advice would be to really think through if you're going to make enough money to warrant the headache and expense.
