Self check-in is convenient until the system fails.
Smart locks can make STR operations much easier.
No physical key handoffs.
Flexible arrival times.
Less coordination.
But technology doesn't remove the need for preparation.
What happens if:
-The battery dies?
- The access code doesn't work?
- The guest can't find the lock?
- The system goes offline?
Every self check-in system should have a backup plan.
That could mean:
• A clear emergency access process
• Someone available to assist
• Backup access instructions
• Regular battery checks
• Testing the lock between stays
The goal isn't to eliminate technology.
It's to make sure technology doesn't become a single point of failure.
Technology should reduce friction, not create a new problem.

That is exactly what I was going to say.
I still use a lockbox at one property because it is almost bullet proof.
The cleaners always check to make sure the keys are back in the lockbox when they arrive to clean.
