Now, as a member of a college fraternity, and and having played with many traveling rugby clubs over the years, I've been a firsthand witness to what the wrong tenants can do to a nice vacation rental home. I think I might personally be out on the whole vacation rental business for life.. but I digress.

Oh, and by the way, if you know of any previously created forum threads that should be moved over to this new forum, please link to them in the comments below. I'll be sure to move them all over to the new forum!
@Scott Trench Thank you! I think this will end up being a very popular forum. Vacation Rentals and Short Term Rentals are a growing niche, with the advent of all the rental sites, etc. I'll take some time over the next few days and begin moving some of the threads over if you'd like.

Would College Housing [sfr's aimed at the college student] count as short term rentals? If not, is there a forum that does pertain to that? thanks in advance!
Does anyone have experience with vacation clubs and how to rent them out? I've had one for 10 years and have only used it twice. It costs me approx $800 annually for maintenance and other fees. I have a deed for one that is located in Marathon, FL but it doesn't have to be the one rented. The club has several resorts across the country.
Congratz!! Looking forward to learning much from this form. Being in Los Angeles this is a niche locating a VAC rental will be very valuable in our portfolio. @Belinda Marsaw
This is great! Thanks for opening this forum. We are currently building our first vacation rental in the panhandle of FL and can't wait to learn from BP!
I am looking to move toward this next year so I am planning for it now. My first will be in the quiet central Oregon (2016) and second will be on the Oregon beach (2017). I am looking forward to learning all I can on this topic that will move me towards these goals. Thanks everybody!
Short term rentals are an excellent investment here in Orlando and the home of the "Mouse House". Seasonal rates are expected but there really is no slow months. Being the number one vacation destination keeps the short term rentals booked consitently around 85%. There are deals to be made here, but you must do your "due diligence". For my investors, I only acquire property that has rental history record showing continued growth, fully furnished, pool and can sleep at least 10. I know that sounds like a tall order, but the deals are out there if you're willing to work the negotiations. Cash offer always helps as well. I'm excited for this new forum and happy to help any way I can.
I have a vacation rental in Boise that I rent short-term/1-3 months during the off-season (winter) and even shorter term in summer - more traditional vacation rental style. I have used AirBnB to DIY and a local vacation management company Vacasa.
This is great, I am currently looking for a family home in Pensacola Beach, FL that we can use for a vacation rental. This has been my next area to learn about and find the property that works for us.
Great new forum. My wife and myself have been considering renting our primary residence for a couple of weeks during the summer but have been nervous about the risk. After speaking to other friends in our area who have done this it appears like any other rental the biggest issue is the renters. But we have found that most of the people who have recently done this have had no issues and in my area a monthly rental income for a month can pay for a 2 week vacation and a whole lot more. We were lucky enough to have purchased just before prices skyrocketed in 1999. With rentals of homes similar to ours going for 20-25k/ month it looks like we are going to give it a try
I get nervous with the VRBO and other sites, any opinions on using local RE agents ? I would assume it would add a layer of safety and insurance to the equation. Sort of like a short term property manager at around the same rate.
et al, thanks! Giving this serious consideration as a new avenue of investing. When comparing notes with other investors, the vacation rentals gross income is quite a bit more than annual. I understand there will be a major difference in management and not sure if I want to tackle that...time will tell. Thanks to all the BP support staff, mods, and of course @Joshua D.
Is this the only Forum for Short Term Rentals? It looks inactive. I am looking for someone who can help me buy and manage a short term rental property in the Fort Myers/Cape Coral area.
