AirBnB - What sells?

My wife and I are going to look at two properties tomorrow that we are evaluating as short term rental investments. The properties are in the North Carolina mountains (near Boone), where there are lots of outdoor activities (hiking, skiing, fly fishing, etc.). What are some characteristics we should look for (either existing or that we can add) that will help these rentals stand out against others in the area?

One property is a very small, one bed/one bath A-frame that needs a little work. The property is cheap, and it could be incredibly 'cute'. Does 'cute' and 'unique' sell as a STR?

Also, is there anyone here who has STR experience in this area who would be willing to share some insight on that market?

Hi @Adam Payne, You should join the FB group and YouTube channel "Short Term Rental Secrets". Great advice from existing and successful STR hosts.

Boone is a great area. You get all of the mountain crowd + parents visiting for kids going to Appalachian.  I'm sure bookings will be consistent if decorated well.
