STR book recommendations???

Question

Hi,

Currently a LTR landlord however I am considering exploring the STR space.  Is there any book or books that are specifically about STRs that you guys would recommend?

I'd recommend listening to the following podcasts: BP #229 and just about all of Vacation Rental Success. They're great places to start!

@Isaac Baron It depends on your portfolio, but I’d say you should analyze the deal and make sure it makes sense as an LTR if you’re buying it and not considering master leasing. If you have good numbers as an LTR, the additional profits from the STR will be icing on the cake and if you ever get stuck holding in a downturn, you’ll be fine with an LTR. That’s what we did anyway. It would be terrible to have multiple STRs that become millstones in a recession.

We found AirDNA to be accurate in our case but it may depend on the market.

There actually are specific books about STRs. I read a number of them; I can't really identify one as any more helpful than the others. As others have said, this forum and others, such as on Facebook, are packed with info from experienced hosts. A book is a good way to get an overview, but for the rest of it, nitty gritty, experience -- yours and that of other hosts -- is probably more on point. No, there are no specific books about STRs.  Most of the STR people on here used what is between their ears to start their STRs.  You can too, and then you can write a book about it.
