Guest with Rottwilder?

Hey Everyone,

Do you allow guests with large / all types of dogs? I have a request with a Rottwilder and unsure if that should be a non-starter

The rental is in a quiet neighborhood and has a fenced in backyard

I think of it this way. People that can afford to stay at my house are generally higher class people. These type people have well behaved kids and pets.

2 months ago I would have said maybe. Then my wife got attacked by a pitpull and now my pet policy has changed when I realized just how much liability certain pets carry.

I would, before saying yes, check with your insurance carrier to make sure they cover that dog breed and that it's not listed under their aggressive breeds. My guess is rottwielers will be and might not be covered under your policy.

The average claim in the US is $37k for a dog bite, and you don't want to be on the hook for that $ without insurance paying a penny.

Just from my personal experience...no I wouldn't allow it.

Most people don't even have insurance that allows short term rental, let alone dangerous breeds. Of course not all dogs in this breed are aggressive, but all are powerful. That means on the off chance there is a bite, the injury is more likely to be serious and expensive.

Hey @Bryan Senker, we allow dogs but I do restrict based on breed. Rottweiler's are not on that list. Neither are Doberman's. Cane Corso, Pit's etc they are.

I have known quite a few Rotties and they have all been good dogs. All were properly trained. So I would ask that.

I find that some dogs like Rottweiler's and Doberman's are trainable and their inherent behaviors are not as aggressive while Pit's are much more prone to aggressive behavior from what I have seen.

I had a couple of refinery contractors STR tenants that got some pet rattlesnakes.  They were 4-5 feet long.  They escaped.  It was a cluster fudge.  More things went downhill after that.  The foreman ended up in a mental institution.  His wife divorced him while he was in there.

Do it.  I had the foreman and his wife stay in the downstairs bedroom with their Rott.  3 of his guys stayed in the 3 bedrooms upstairs.  People travelling with dogs are generally cleaner than people without dogs.  They were a bunch of welders working at a refinery.  Was renting 3 houses out to the group.
