Short Term Rentals - Best Practices

My company is currently making a big push into the Short Term Rental business in the Cleveland market. Thus far, our business has primarily been long term buy & holds in the lower income space. We're going to be hitting the luxury space with our Short Term Rental business line so it's going to be a change of pace from our normal operation. I'm looking to crowd source some best practices from the BP nation.

Hit me with some of your best practices in your Short Term Rental business.

  • Best things to do / not do.
  • We all know about Airbnb and VRBO but what are some of the best companies to work with that are lesser known?
  • Things you've done you wish you hadn't.
  • Things you've done you wish you had done sooner.
  • Market(s) you are doing this in.
  • Have you been getting jammed up by your local municipality and building department?

All feedback is welcome.

First I highly recommend you reading through this forum to find many of your answers.

I only use Vrbo and Airbnb. I don't need anything more.

I wish I had gotten into this sooner. I mainly have LTR'S.

No issues with local building department. We are in a rural area on a major lake.
