Anyone Invested into Courses or Coaching?

Has anyone invested into a digital course

OR

Hiring a coach who currently does short term rentals

I've seen multiple individuals on Tik Tok who provide AMAZING content and resources on how to get into the STR space.

Over the next year or so I'm hoping to get my first STR purchased and started.

Looking for suggestions or advice to how you have got your information and experience and if you would would suggest looking into any of those paid options to help get the knowledge needed FASTER so the business can start and grow at an expedited pace.

thanks!

Hey Matt,

I would reach out to Avery Carl or Luke Carl. They don’t have a course per se, but they deal with STRs (and sell them), so they could possibly be a place to start at least.

Never pay for those RE courses. Total rip off. They are full of it. Plus you can learn for free on here and listen to RE podcasts.

I don't doubt that at all!  I've worked with investors for years through my professional job (I'm an insurance broker), and am now beginning my personal path to get into the market.

I've been around BP a long time and I know the information is here, just didn't know if anyone had used other resources to help multiply their knowledge faster (kind of like a mentorship model)

Thanks for the suggestion Sean!  I'll see if I can get my hands on a copy.

I've been around BP a long time and I'm sure I can find everything and more with enough time invested, I was just looking to see if anyone had good experience in using a course/coach to help multiply the knowledge and minimize the time to get started.  thanks!

Appreciate your input John.  I completely agree you can learn for free and on podcasts, but that can lead to lack of motivation by not knowing what to do next or by seeing no results.

I would disagree that all courses and coaching are a rip off.  While you are right that there are TONS of them out there that are a money guzzler, there are courses/coaches/mentors who can help get you to where you want to be in a shorter amount of time (similar to a lot of other industries).

All this to say, that's why I jumped on here to ask what/if everyone has experienced before.

I purchased an entry level course a few years ago (for wholesaling). It was great info back then, when I had little knowledge of this industry. They'll FLOOD you with information, and leave you with more questions than answers, then try to upsell to more expensive courses. However, this course was a huge boost of motivation and helped me get the ball rolling.

I think many here agree that education is important. Seminars and courses ARE forms of education, as well as this forum. I used the seminars and courses, combined with this forum to really propel me into sinking my teeth in this industry. Started wholesaling and eventually found an investor near me, that was willing to mentor me, as long as I exclusively wholesale deals to him. I forgot to mention that I found him on BiggerPockets! It's been working out great!

Like many others in this thread, I agree that this forum is all you need, BUT I can't say that this forum and podcast ALONE was enough motivation for me to get started. It has for others, but not me. Try going to an entry level course or seminar, keep an open mind. But also be aware that they will try to upsell you. I found that the courses are good enough at teaching the broad basics, and the forums are great for advise and pointing you to the right direction. Remember that no one will have all the information you will need, so sometimes you will need to figure out things for yourself!

Good Luck!

@Matt Moylan

I agree with what others said. It is hard to justify spending your hard earned cash on information that is free and readily available online. I would add that you should surround your self with like minded individuals. I have co workers who I discuss real estate with daily. They push me to to get out of my comfort zone and are a sounding board for ideas....and they don't cost me money. What additional value does a coach provide that makes them worth the money?

Appreciate the words Dan.  This is exactly what I was looking for.  I'm not sold on NEEDING a coach/course, but know how valuable they can be when implemented properly.

I'm definitely going to take advantage of the free stuff first and IF I find something/someone then I'll go from there.

Again, thanks for your help/suggestions

I've been reading up on STR for months and found a few good resources. This forum is one obviously and Avery Carl's book. She also just opened a course. Not sure if it's on her site, but if you get on her email list you'll probably get a link. If you're on Facebook, join a few groups for Airbnb hosts. That's an education in itself. Also join Bill Faeth's group Build Short-Term Rental Wealth. He has a YouTube channel too and gives lots of good info on promoting your STR, dealing with the ABB algorithm, etc. On YouTube, Airbnb Automated (by an arbitrager, but he still gives good info), and STR University.

It is Avery and Luke Carl’s Real Estate Company geared towards short term rental investors. Google it, you’ll thank me later haha
