CA: Is it worth it in the end?

Hello,

Coming on here again to ask you guys about California. I'm looking for investment deals (SFRs) within California or the states more north but don't know any good, growing cities. Let me know if you think its wise to stay within the state or if I should be reaching for further East.

@Eduardo G. It depends on what your objectives are. If your goal is cash flow, you should probably be considering STR. I'm a lifelong resident of CA and have seen huge appreciation over the years but I'm not a believer in banking on appreciation a lone. If you go the STR route, you could have the best of both worlds, however, the upfront capital required is a big hurtle. If you're goal is solely cash flow then you might consider OOS markets, particularly in the Midwest.

Hi Eduardo, I'm an agent in Tuolumne County which is located in the Sierras where I work with short term rental investors. There are several short term rental opportunities in some of the different towns in the county catering to different to tourists. For example - tourists who are visiting Yosemite and tourists who want to rent a snow cabin. Opportunities still exist!

Will you live there also, or just an investment property?

California is actually fairly friendly toward ADUs and house hack STRs.  Davis, CA is a great spot.
