Newbie Introduction

Hello - My name is Mark Hicks from Blaine, Washington and this is my newbie introduction post.

I've been a residential general contractor for the past 15 years and have purchased and sold a few properties since then, but have never pursued REI seriously.

Last week I went to a "Free Seminar" by the Rich Dad company, mostly out of curiosity and an unwillingness to go work out in the rain that day. Rather than purchase anything from them, I came home and researched them. The best review came from a Bigger Pockets forum. I quickly forgot about Rich Dad (pay for seminars are not my thing) and over the next few days became familiar with BP, as well as a member!

I find the community based, no sales pitch environment of BP to be a wonderful breath of fresh air and a sensible approach to real estate investing.

My interest is in owning rentals, be it single family or multi unit. I will be searching mostly for fixer uppers so as to fully utilize my skill set as a contractor, but I have a lot of work to do to learn the ropes.

I appreciate this opportunity to introduce myself and look forward to engaging with this community!!
