Hi everyone! Officially new member but unofficially...

I've been reading BiggerPockets for about 4 years now. I just created an account to join in on the conversation because, well, there's so much good stuff being exchanged between everyone. I wanted to get in on it and make some friends.

A little about me:

I live in NYC but am from Texas. I'd been investing on the side while keeping my full-time advertising agency job and, just this year decided to leave and do my own thing.

I control $7M worth of real estate investments which includes single family home portfolio and an apt community where I just did a syndicated deal. I'm a buy-and-hold investor.

Great to FINALLY join in and say hi to everyone. Looking forward to being an active member of this community.

Welcome to BP @Joe Fairless . That's a great accomplishment in your portfolio. I hope that its producing a ton of cash flow for you. There's lots of great people here from the NYC area. @Pete Nater can direct you to the local meetups we have. I'm in the city quite often now so if you ever want to grab a coffee and talk shop let me know.

Welcome @Joe Fairless to BP. Once a Texas, always a Texas right? You definitely have some experience and wisdom you can share with us and would love to hear it.

I really liked Danny Johnson in #18; #21 with Jerry is great. The last couple have been really good. Heck, they're all good & definitely worth a listen - they announce the new one every Thursday...

Thanks @Dev Horn for putting up the podcast link for Joe. Parents are from Arlington too and do head up there a once in awhile.

Joe, a few of my favorite podcasts are #33 and #37 so check them out. Great idea @Ramon Jenkins and @Joel Owens ! Joe, if you can share your experiences and how you got the $7M in properties, we would love to hear that. Maybe a different forum topic?

Dev, thx for the link. I'll check out those podcasts this Sunday. Looking forward to it. I also really like the Real Estate Guys Radio Network podcasts. I'm a huge fan of their book Equity Happens and then, after that, I started listening to their podcsts. Good stuff.

Ramon, thx for the welcome, I did the single family homes while I had my full-time job then decided to leave my job (wasn't financially independent from homes at the time) and created a real estate investing company where I did my syndicated deal that closed this past July.

Joel & Cuong, agreed, I'll write a post on that deal soon. It was one hell of a learning experience. It's the most challenging, crazy, rewarding thing I've ever done in my life.

@Joe Fairless . Use the @ sign and start typing the persons name, (no space), you'll see a drop-down appear in the lower part of your screen. Select the person's name and that's it. They'll get an alert or notification that you posted about or responded to them

@Joshua D. - yep, that's the plan. Can't believe it's taken me this long to get involved in the community vs. reading the articles on the sidelines. I'll make sure to tell my students to not only read but also join as a community member.

@Vicky Covarrubias - well that is so nice of you to say, thank you for those kind words. Means a lot.

If I had boil it down to one tip I'd say you're a product of those you surround yourself with. I'm on calls with people who have goals of raising $100M annually which seems crazy to me (or used to). My mindset has completely shifted because I've surrounded myself with people who are already where I will be. Then, I just listen to what they tell me, I do it and it works out.

My friend and mentor, Peter Harris, lives in SF so there's always a chance I'll be there and do something with him.

Welcome Joe . There are a lot of super helpful people and great advice on this site! I'm a "fix and hold" investor from the Bay Area in CA, and loving it! A lot of others doing flips, wholesaling, notes, everything.. A few tips..

You can tag people by typing @ before you type their name, then clicking their name when it pops up at the bottom of the message box. You can click on the "vote" button if you like someone's post or is helpful, and there are "awards" to earn on your profile. The "Learn" link across the top navigation bar has lots of great info, and most importantly, the BP members! Welcome to BP, and good luck on your investments!
