New to Investing
Hello everyone my name is Justin and I'm very new to investing and have very little knowledge in this subject, but looking to start learning and being able to purchase a multifamily in the next couple years. I was in the Navy from 2010 to 2015 and after leaving pursued a career as a Heavy equipment mechanic in San Fransisco for 5 years. Had the opportunity to come to Austin to work as a Heavy equipment field mechanic for mining equipment and trash compactors. My job is amazing and worked very hard to learn and excel at my job but I'm struggling to have free time to see my family due to vacation restrictions with this type of industry. Im 33 years old and have family in California as well as my wife's family in Brazil. I want to learn as much as I can to be able to build assets like multifamily homes, stocks, and financial knowledge in general to put me in a position have freedom. Iv already completed Rich dad poor dad and just looking for advice on some more books I can read to gain this knowledge or any other avenues.
Thank you.

Hi Justin,
Welcome to Austin! Check out my profile. I had no investment real estate 25 years ago. Now I have all I need. Unlike you, I am 70 yrs old. I wish I had your youth ahead of me. I didn't learn about the great potential of investment real estate until I was in my mid-forties.
Buying in Austin now can be a challenge. Are you currently a renter or owner. I would be happy to do coffee or lunch with you to give you my thoughts. But before you commit be advised of two things:
1. I am neither a realtor nor am I a lender, so I am not going to try and sell you anything! Not even a training program.
2. I love to talk real estate, so I can talk for hours and probably give you some good answers to any questions you might have about investing, both in real estate and even the Market. My background is somewhat like yours in that like you, I spent some time in the military too. 20 years in the United States Air Force. So i even know the VA loan for military folks work. After the military career, i was a Finaical Advisor for 20 years. 18 of those years I was an independent advisor working for my self.
Take a look at my profile and look at some of my answers to prior questions and you will get a feel for my interest and direction when discussing investment real estate. Cheers.
Joe
