Is Wholesaling illegal?

I am soooo frustrated. I started my own LLC and I have buyers, but I have NO properties and NO funding. I was looking to wholesale to create funds, but I keep running into people who tell me that it is illegal. I refuse to give up. I retired so that I could do this. Any suggestions?
