New Investor in the Boston area

Hi everyone, my name is Kenny and my wife and I are about to buy our first investment property.  I'm a firefighter and she's a nurse so we aren't looking to quit our jobs but are interested in using real estate to give us a little financial freedom to take more vacations and enjoy our 3 kids as much as possible.  I've been reading every real estate book I can get my hands on which brought me to this forum.  I am trying to be as educated as possible before taking the plunge but also don't want to be the guy at the party who talks real estate all night and doesn't own anything yet.  I have kind of become obsessed with learning real estate since I got the idea in my head and first read the book on rental property investing.   We are looking at 2 families around the Malden area and hoping to put some of this reading and analysis homework to good use and find a great deal.  Look forward to talking with you all, have a great day

Hi Kenny, welcome to BP.

This is a great place to learn. Make sure to listen to all the BP podcasts, read the articles on the main blog and be active in these forums to learn a ton very quickly about any topic in real estate you want to know more about.

This is also a great place to meet people that can be assets to your business. Lots of great connections all over but we also have a very strong and active contingent here in MA on here so make sure to find them (Set up some keyword alerts to find out about local topics) and get connected.

Besides doing that on here make sure to get out to some of the many local investor events we have.  Up that way you should check out the NEREIA in Chelmsford.  The Boston Investor's event is also a good quarterly meetup, usually in Woburn, (next should be June) that is right near you.  I'd also recommend going to the Black Diamond meeting in Waltham (alternates every other month with their Worcester location, next Waltham one is May).  Lots of other options on the North Shore, near the city and South of it too.
