Any potential in Columbus, Ohio?

Hello everyone,

I am very new to investing in real estate and looking to make my first plunge/investment. I've been told for years that Columbus is a great city to invest in. Is Columbus, Ohio a good place to start investing in real estate? Any info helps.

No, there is nothing going on in Columbus. Very boring place, nobody is moving here, not much real estate activity. Best look elsewhere, we're all fine here. Situation normal.

Columbus, Ohio. Realtor.com recently ranked Columbus as America’s fourth-hottest housing market based on the number of hits each listing receives and time on the market. Columbus is also the 14th largest city in the country, and the only large northern city to grow by more than 10% from 2010 to 2017.

According to Zillow, home values in Columbus have increased sharply since 2013, rising by 9.2% over the past year alone. Over the next year, Zillow predicts an additional 7% increase.

From 2010 to 2016 per capita income growth (not adjusted for inflation) in the Columbus metro area was 25% versus 21% in Cincinnati, 21% in Cleveland, and 22% in the United States as a whole.

I help a lot of investor build rental portfolios here in Columbus Ohio 2-4 family rentals and a few commercial 5+ unit rentals buy and hold. I am an investor myself building a portfolio for my family and am always available to be of service.

I am after stability, as of right now I'd like to make income from rentals.  Since this would be my first house, I want to start small around the 60k range with at least 20% down.  From what I've seen in Ohio, I could get a decent house in that price range that wouldn't require much TLC.  However, it looks like those types of houses are becoming rarer in Columbus.

I am certainly not a pro like you folks but I do believe that real estate is a solid investment and Columbus, Cincinnati, and Cleveland look like great places for a first time investor.  I would love to connect with you all and learn from you at the least because I definitely have a lot to learn.

@Andrew Ivory Indeed you are correct. As a policy, we don't look at anything under $75k...just not worth it in Columbus. The problem is stability...I know a couple guys doing well in Cleveland suburbs...and around Indy. You can get stuff for $60k here, but you'll pay for it with headaches.

I will definitely check that out.  That's definitely more of what I'm looking for as a first time buyer, lower purchase price for a decent house and make rental income from it.  Ohio seems to have great potential.
