Getting started in DFW

Hi All,

I'm looking to start investing in SFR flips and/or 2-4 MFU rentals. I understand the ins and outs of real estate but am new to investing. Are there any meetups in the Dallas area that anyone would recommend attending? I'm looking to meet fellow investors, hard money lenders, etc., and get started.

I like the Propelio meet up on the second Tuesday in Grapevine. Also the Best REI Group ran by Sherry Patterson. Both of these down allow people to just pitche their education or guru service. I am a sponsor of a group but it is way out west in Southwest Fort Worth. That one is called West DFW REI meet up.

@Sean Thomas welcome to Bigger Pockets.  Always nice to see a fellow Texan.  Bigger Pockets even has a Texas forum too. Pretty active a lots of locals participate there.  

To answer your question yes, there are LOTS of meetups in DFW area.  Probably too many really.  Some have pretty hard sales pressure at them.  Several of these will have similar names but they are different. And these are the groups that I feel comfortable recommending. 

DFW REI Club –www.dfwreiclub.com – meet about 50 times per year. Lots of different topics and a very friendly group.

DFW Mid Cities REIA - https://dfwmidcitiesreia.com/ - meets each month and is completely free. Usually free food and free drinks.

DFW REI Network Investing Meetup - https://www.meetup.com/DFW-REI-Network-Investing-Meetup/ - Started in Bigger Pockets this group meets once per month and has a NO GURU SALES allowed rule. Just straight information and super friendly atmosphere.

AREA Real Estate Investing Grouphttps://www.meetup.com/realestate-445/ - Meets once per month and is usually well attended

DFW REI Meetup by Propelio - https://www.meetup.com/DFW-REI-Meetup-by-Propelio/ - Probably the most popular group currently in DFW. Hundreds of people attend. Tons of classes and speakers. All 100% free!

Howdy Folks,

I own a portfolio in DFW (I've exited all my Houston properties)--happy to share experiences. Separately, I own 6 acres or so of raw land down in Johnson County, near Burleson. Anyone have a good (or bad) experience with a realtor who does land in that neck of the woods? I'm debating selling, but don't have a feel for market pricing...

@Nadine Perry DFW, like Houston is huge. Since I grew up there, it helped that I had a network of people I could trust to do things, including property management. Over time I found a buyers agent that is very good in MF property pricing/investing who I still work with. I've specialized in duplexes, as you can get normal FNM loans for up to 4 doors, with 30 fixed rates that are very attractive.
