A Beginner's Compass

Hello from Los Angeles, Ca. (Canoga Park),

Is there a place to start at the bottom and "Climb the Ladder"?

I am currently between jobs. I believe it would be far more productive to find an entry level job in REI. This will provide a hands on learning experience and personnel investment for the team I become a part of.

I considered jumping into wholesales, but realized I need more knowledge.

I am a Craftsman (achieved Journeyman Carpenter, Plumbing Tech., former GC-B) with experience in property maintenance, custom cabinetry, tile, masonry, fencing and vinyl, and minor electrical... although I've always been proud of my work, I've never felt passionate about it as I do REI.

I know I can be a great addition to a team, but i haven't figured out where to start. I look forward to your advice...

Hi Ronald!! I'm still a newbie myself, but own an investment property locally. I'd say try to link up with someone at one of your local REI meet ups. I know you're not passionate about doing the work you're skilled in, but the experience you have would be a great addition to any team. Maybe swap the labor experience you have with someone who is in the investing world that could teach you the ropes. Maybe charge them less than what you typically would for all the lessons they could teach you along the way.

If you're interested in Wholesaling, try to find a mentor or possibly a team of wholesalers you could work with to get a cut of the profit from the deal.  I met a wholesaler at a local meet up and he was looking for people to join his team as he was going away to play basket ball overseas.

The opportunity to learn is out there.  Don't be afraid to put yourself out there.  The worst they could say is no.

Well wishes ... Cassandra
