Jobs/ Should I change jobs?

Posted

Hey I'm 20yrs old with 2 kids and a wife. I'm trying to buy my first rental property by the end of this year and save enough money. But I've been doing asphalt for the last 2 years and get paid $23 hourly and it pays the bills and I can save during the summer. But during the winter we barely work and I live paycheck to paycheck and can't save. But I really want to try this sales job because I'm not the most confident person and I want to learn how to talk to people and be confident and not scared of what to say or to talk to people. Also because the description says most of their employees make 100k to 180k and they give a 3 week paid training and no experience needed. Should I do it?

Not trying to burst your bubble or discourage you but just throwing out a voice of reason. If most of their employees made 100k-180k, they wouldn't be looking for anyone and they probably wouldn't need a guy with no sales experience with a blue collar background. That's just a bunch of fluff to sell you on the job. Good jobs sell themselves, they need no fluffing.

So is a sales job the right fit for you? Who knows. There are ways you can get one on the side, keep your current job and give it a try before you launch into the abyss, especially for a 20 YO guy with a wife & 2 kids. Most sales jobs work on pretty strong commission, meaning when you aren't selling you aren't eating.

What do you currently do during the winter when the asphalt plants are closed?
