Inspector for permit signature

I was recently granted a permit for work that was done prior to my purchasing the building. However, the permit needs the signature of the new construction inspector. The plans required for the permit include things that I really have no intention of doing because they weren't required to pass building code. However, they are considered NEW code so had to be included in the drawings.

Has anyone ever gone through this? What is the best way to navigate this? Will the inspector simply sign off seeing that the permit is granted for old work, or do I have to re-rehab the basement up to new code?

I posted about this before but can't find the responses.
