Where to get plot plan

Question

Hello my friends,

I'd like to install a fence ourselves on the back yard. I checked the city code that privacy fence on back yard doesn't need a permit.

However, our HOA requires us to submit a request along with the plot plan.

I am fine with that but I couldn't find the any plot plan in the closing documents.

Who would be able to provide or find the plot plan? I understand a contractor might do it, but we prefer to DIY. Thanks a lot.

Did you get a survey plat with the closing documents? If so, contact the surveying company that completed it. Depending on how detailed of a plot plan they require, most of the work will already be done.

HOA's can be a pain. But I'm thinking you may need a permit or a Land Use request from the county.

Hi Aries - we own vacant lots in Indy which we redevelop into single family homes. We have always used Hahn Surveying to complete lot lines. I have not found any entity (HOA, permit office etc.) who would accept a DIY plot line (after all imagine, if all your neighbors could submit their own version of plot lines).  In my opinion, this is a case where it is best to get it done and done right in the first instance instead of walking up to/over the line (pun intended).
