cast iron pipes
Hello, my personal home has cast iron pipes that are 60 year old. I moved here 2 years ago. The home is really beautiful and I am on a larger lot. the home is 2500 sq feet.
I have had some issues with the pipes. one of my toilets exploded and my son had some issues with his tub draining. i have had the pipes looked at many times- video scope. I have gotten mixed info from plumbers on the state they are in- some people say they can be lined some say it will not help. I got an estimate for 25000$ for lining- they reported a 25 year warranty. I think i am missing portions of the pipe so i am not really sure about lining. for a repipe I have 2 estimates so far- 25,000 to 40,000. That is only for plumbing, and doesn't cover the cost of putting floors back, general construction or for the trees- removing roots in the front of the home . I am really just confused what I should do? anyone have advice? ty

I've replaced pipes starting at the street. Replumbed, the entire house and rerouted pipes and added new faucets, new connectors when doing so. Yeah, it was expensive and a big job, but we bought it as a "fixer".
So, would I do it on a lark, no.
I might replace in a few selective places for longevity but unless I was doing a total remodel, I wouldn't disturb the rest. I'd get rid of any lead though.
I'd replace any galvanized drinking lines, but that's me.
I would replace faucets, water lines to the dishwasher, sinks, clothes washer, toilets, that kind of thing.
