So you walk into a house, know you want to completely redo the kitchen.  What ballpark price do you assume for flooring, cabs, countertops, appliances...  the whole deal?

Typical kitchen for us (lower end, $100K retail resale) is about:

- $3000 for cabinets (42" cherry stained)
- $500 for countertops (laminate)
- $1.00 per square foot for vinyl flooring or $5.25 per square foot for solid oak flooring
- $1400 for stainless fridge, range, microwave, dishwasher

So, ultimately it will be between $5-6K for a new kitchen, more or less depending on size.

sorta tough question to answer without more details...

what level of finishes?  hardwoods, tile, granite, laminate, stainless appliances, backsplash, etc.??

how big is the kitchen?

is there an island?

Hard to say, econo job 25 to 30 bucks a foot, moderate 40/50, extensive with mid range amenities, maybe 50/75, upper end, 75/100 and luxury 150+. Appliance can be included in that from an econo job to the mid range, but over that, who knows, it will depend on your design.  If you need an 8X12 wine cellar/cold room, might run a little more.

Thats maple, granite and travertine... cabinets, counters and flooring respectively.

I use cheap stick on tiles on the floor with glue. Paint the cabinets whatever decent color I got laying around or get it at hd off the 5$ opps rack. 10$ for light fixture. Might paint countertops too or drop in a generic one from home depot. Usually have a few sinks in the shed  to use. I dont include appliances. Usually will redo a whole kitchen between 500-800$. It does not actually look bad. I rather spend my money on new windows or a roof or something else the tenant wont usually wreck. Again these are low income places.
