I would like buy a house for cheap, fix it up and little and sell it. However, I dont know much about fixing up homes.. i know it’s best for me to hire people that are good with that.. anybody started out this way as well? Did this hinder you in anyway?

Am I just tell the contractor what needs to be done and he will go from there?

Whatever you are thinking about, don't do it. It's clear from your post that you don't have the background knowledge (yet) to embark on a house flipping project. If you are interested in flipping a house, you need to read and learn and see flips in action because if not, you will turn over all decision-making to a contractor you don't know well and every second your profit will disappear. Do you have a background in real estate? Do you know how to find deals off the MLS or on? Do you have an investor-friendly agent who can help you find a good deal? Have you ever rehabbed a property and are you familiar with what certain renovation aspects cost? These are just some questions to ask yourself.
