Cost to buy and install refrigerated cooling?

Question

Just finishing up my rehab estimate and I need one more key piece of info, how much to buy and instal a refrigerated air system. My current rehab price is right at $23,550 but I need this last number. The neighbor said the house had refrigerated air before it hit the market, so I figure that's what I'd put into it if I got it. Otherwise swap cooling is what I'd put. It's what I grew up with, and currently live with :D

I went to Lowes and didn't find anything.

So... any idea how much?

Yea that sounds more in line. You can always call an HVAC contractor about a free estimate. That'll give you an idea of what your looking at. Then shop around for the best price.

The price is completely dependent on what's left of the previous HVAC system.

Is duct work, etc still in place?

Whatever route you choose make sure you protect the compressor from theft. We get hundreds of calls every day from people who have newly installed and existing AC units stolen. They spend anywhere from $3,200 - $10,000+ for replacement after vandalism.

If its just a matter of installing a compressor and evaporator into existing duct work, and you have the air handler in place, I'd guess about $2-3K.  Add another $1K if you need the air handler (aka "furnace") in place.  More still if duct work is needed.  The price will vary based on the size, too.

That is crazy! Thanks for the response! I was thinking like $3k, but I better budget for a tad bit more. Duct work is in place still. More like $5k I'm thinking.
