How to find code violation list/tax liens in Mass?

Question

How can I find a list of code violation, I was searching up public records but it only allows me to look up by person name. I'm trying to get to a list of code violations such as unkept property, water shutoff, tall grass and things of such. I am In Massachussets, How can I go about accessing one?

@Eliott Elias- Massachusetts violations are done at local (town) level and not county level. This information is not on a county website.

Best to go through the local REIAs and see what info you can get. I know you can get some info by going to the individual town water departments, electric departments, depending on what area you want, but Worcester can be tough if that is where you are looking. Again, there is a list of individual REIAs, other than the Boston REIA that might be more help. Hope you have some luck.

This is one of the most important things to note in the Northeast when looking for Tax Delinquent Lists since they are usually found at the county level.

Water Shutoffs are usually kept with the Water Department, and they are not provided nearly as much as other list types by the municipalities. They will simply state "We do not provide such records".

You are going to want to make an open records request to the targeted municipality with your requests.

You can filter by all properties. Look at your county appraisal district website or pull the list in person at code enforcement

Remember Massachusetts is very different than other states in that everything is done at the town level not county level. So you have to go a lot deeper in your search

There are often list providers.... might check with someone like foreclosuresdaily to see if they provide this list for MA.   Also might check with your local REIAs to see if they have any list providers in your area.

Some potential you could go to your local court that handles these cases or the code compliance department and ask if they can provide a list, or know any of the vendors who do.

Water shutoff is something different.  Probably have to get that from water department or water provider....there you're looking for properties that have meters, but don't have service.

I always say if you're trying to get these from government or semi-government entities directly...go in person....don't call....90% of the time in my experience if you call, they are quick to say no...or try to get rid of you.  If you go in person, better chance of finding someone to give you a better answer...sometimes your questions gets heard by several staff members hanging around...not just the person in front of you ...so if they don't know...someone else will know and chime in....or that person will turn around and ask all the office ladies...if you know what I mean.

Some chance you may also want to talk to the people at deal machine...not sure they offer these services, but may or may know someone who does in your area.
