How much start up capital is needed to get involved in a 2 family home in the NJ area?

That depends on a couple things. 

First of all, are we talking Northern NJ or South/Central NJ?

By "Involved" do you mean a house hack, flip, BRRRR, or turnkey long term rental?

Are you planning to raise money or do you want to do it all yourself?

Since your bio says Staten Island, I'll assume Northern NJ and since you posted in BRRRR, I'll assume that's your strategy.

You could maybe find a 2 family home in NJ for $300k. A good BRRRR probably will need 35-50k or more of work. Closing costs and refi costs will be $8-10k.

So my SUPER ballpark answer... minimum $100k. Probably more like 125-150.
