Legitimate bird dogging? Does it exist?

Can someone please tell me if bird dogging really exists or is just a scam that these "gurus" market in order to entice newbie investors who want to believe that Real Estate investing is really that easy? I just want a legitimate opportunity where I could use my research skills to find viable investment properties for a "finder's fee" while I learn the ropes. I am certain that there are legitimate investors and/or knowledgeable people here that could offer REAL advice and opportunities to learn this business while I make money. I feel somewhat disheartened by all of the bs out there but I know that I can do this! I just need the help and guidance of my fellow Bigger Pockets members. I don't know where to begin. There are so many scams out there. Please help! Thank you sooo much!!!

I've purchased two properties from a bird dog, so bird dogging is real. I agree with Joe: go to a REI club meeting in your area, find an investor, and attach yourself to his or her hip pocket. Figuratively, of course. :) Bird dogging is easier when you have a buyer and their specific needs in mind as you search. Just my 2 cents.
