First year in real estate: 2020 is hindsight

In 2019 I stepped away from my job as a helicopter pilot in the Marines to become a real estate... agent, investor, landlord, flipper..... Ok so I didnt really know what I was jumping into but I was going in headfirst.

We, my beautiful wife Rachel and I, chose a market and moved to Bryan / College Station, TX in January of 2020. That same month we purchased a 4-plex and I signed on to become a Keller Williams real estate agent.

2020 in review:

$1.1 million in sales volume as a real estate agent

New W2 job as a property manager (job came with a mentor, super cool!!)

Purchased a 1940's live-in flip / Airbnb house hack

7 units added to the portfolio (4plex, duplex, and an Airbnb room in our primary residence)

12 more units under contract.

The craziest part about 2020 is that with the exception of the 4-plex, all that happened since October 1st.

When I look back at the last 3 months I know the difference is that I surrounded myself with like-minded people. People who are on the same path and who wanted the same things out of real estate. Those people were found here on biggerpockets and out in the local community.

Starting in 2021, I will be contributing more to this forum and working to put myself around even more people looking to make big things happen!

2021 Goals:

$2 million sale volume as a KW agent (working primarily with investors)

Finish the rehab on the live-in flip

Refinance 2 properties

Purchase 20 more units

Convert at least 2 units to Airbnb rentals

What big things happened to you this last year? What triggered your growth?
