Why would a property go to auction after being listed on MLS?

Property is REO. Typical process of REO is foreclosure>>auction>>MLS. No? Just looking at what would motivate a bank to go to auction after a property is already listed on MLS.

Auctions are another option if they can't get enough interest or price.  In a frenzy some people will pay more than they should have.  They also get additional exposure.
