Best U.S. markets for buy and hold duplexes

Hi, I am based overseas and want to invest in real estate back in the U.S. I am most interested in a buy and hold strategy for duplexes. I own a home in Denver, CO and have family in the Tampa, FL, Shepherdstown, VA and Plattsburgh, NY area. I would prefer to invest in or around these areas where I have a familiarity and a connection so I can get help when I need it. Does anybody have a recommended geography from the locations described above where I am likely to find better cash flow and appreciation over time? Thx.

Hi @Jon Wright. I can't really help you on the other locations, but Denver is a really tough market for a buyer right now. It is getting harder and harder to find a good deal that will cash flow enough to even cover PITI, let alone management, repairs, capex, vacancy, etc.

Wherever you look, make sure and reach out to find those that are doing deals in those areas and leverage their knowledge. For your remote purchase, your agent and property manager will be invaluable.
