What do you do with 'leftovers' from Guests?

Question

Just curious.......we have most guests leave things in the kitchen. Food, frozen dinners, vegetables, beer, half bottle of wine, spices, rice, etc......

We leave things that are potentially useful, like food that gas not been opened, or is unused and fresh. We do leave beer if unopened....

What say you?

We tell our cleaners they can have this stuff that gets left behind.

I wouldn't leave alcohol if I were you. If you provide it, you may become responsible for your guests actions while under the influence of it.

If the items left behind are valuable like cell phone charges, bluetooth speakers etc, I go out of my way to get them returned.

Only once has a guest decided they didn't want their shirt, jacket, charger, speaker, makeup bag, backpack, Switch controller etc back.

This is the kind of good customer service that gets you the 5 star reviews. People always appreciate you taking the time to contact them about what you found and if you can help them get it back.

Our cleaning crew is instructed to take or throw away anything they find.

I just had a guest recently that stayed a week and then checked out and went home over the weekend only to return on Monday to stay again.  She was wondering where her Diet Cokes in the fridge went.  I just told her the truth.  "I told the cleaning lady to keep them, we clean the unit out between guests."

The ONE thing I wish I could keep is all of the cell phone chargers!  Those would be valuable.  I'm not about to start cleaning my units though, so I guess she keeps those too.

If we go and clean between guests (we do that sometimes to take inventory and see if anything is missing), we keep it. People leave all sorts of great things. I always bring a cooler with ice packs to bring it hope.The cleaner takes whatever they want to keep. There were multiple bottles of unopened wine, 1/2 a bottle of tequila, at least a full case of various beer etc.We never leave alcohol like @Mike Kostner. I have seen some lawsuits filed against property owners if they provided or left booze.

If anything is open, it gets tossed.  What is still sealed gets taken by me or left for the next tenants.  I leave alcohol.  My tenants work with multi-million dollar facilities, they are responsible in that regards.

We either donate (to cleaner) or compost whatever is suitable.

I too tell the cleaners that they can take what ever is left behind in the fridge or freezer. If it is an unopened canned/dry good (besides spices, most people appreciate the spice selection whether opened or not) it can stay, otherwise it gets tossed.
