Foreign Home Buyers with No Established Credit

Are there any loan programs for foreigners who would like to purchase a home? I have a friend from Australia who is looking to buy in the next year but traditional lending is a challenge since he has no established credit, not even in his home country.

He is a nuclear engineering professor at the local university and makes a decent salary. He also has a good amount of money saved. What are his options?
