Seeking VA Loan Specialist & Investor-Friendly Agent — Pittsburgh
I’m looking for recommendations for two professionals who truly understand both VA loans and real estate investing:
- A mortgage lender or loan officer who specializes in VA financing—not simply someone who occasionally handles VA loans.
- An investor-friendly real estate agent who understands rental-property analysis, house hacking, value-add opportunities, and strategies such as BRRRR.
My initial goal is to purchase an owner-occupied property using my VA loan benefit, preferably something that also has strong investment potential. From there, I plan to continue building a rental portfolio.
I’m currently considering the Pittsburgh and surrounding Western Pennsylvania market, but I’m also open to speaking with professionals who cover other investor-friendly markets.
I'd especially appreciate recommendations based on direct experience. What questions should I ask to determine whether a lender or agent genuinely understands VA financing and investing rather than simply marketing themselves that way?

Hey Chris - It'd be a pleasure to help you out with this. Househackers are probably my favorite clients to help out because of how powerful it is. We can set you up with a couple solid options for the VA loan with mortgage folks we've worked with previously on househack deals here. I've done multiple house hacks myself and am now in a live-in-flip. Certainly know what to look for in a property as far as that goes - and where you'd run into issues or not on the VA appraisals is key so we can navigate and discuss that as well.
