    Great post…. As for previous landlord references, I usually pull up the public information records for the property that the landlord supposedly owns prior to calling them. When I call, I’ll ask all the usual tenant reference questions, then I’ll ask questions based on the information in the public records such as “When did you purchase the property?”, “How much did you purchase it for?”, “What bank did you finance the property through?”

    As long as I explain the reason for these questions, landlords are pretty open to the questions.

    Great show! I thought that discrimination laws only apply if I was a license agent or the equavalent — if I am just a homeowner I can select what ever tenant I want? Just wondering —
