Real Estate=Team Sport

Real Estate is a Team Sport. There is a really good quote for this, “If you by yourself, you will go fast. If you go with a team, you will go far.” I receive a lot of phone calls and when someone tells me that they don’t want to be part of the community, I tell myself this is not someone who I want to work with. The two biggest things I have learned is leverage other people and partnering. I partnered on my first two deals because I didn’t have $136K sitting around in my bank. I found someone who knew someone who had money. I went into good debt to make money. I’m not the best at talking to people about money so that person did it for me. I found the deal, he found the money and we partnered. I couldn’t have done it without him. I didn’t know a good contractor so luckily I knew a person in the community of investors I work with knew a contractor. They have already worked with them before and had a good experience. I’m in the business of making money and I felt comfortable enough with the people who I was working with to trust that everyone was going to do the right things.

Real Estate is a team sport that can also be a negative. If you trust the people who you work with and they become unreliable and don’t respond to phone calls. Luckily, I haven’t had that problem, but I have heard horrid stories. I wouldn’t also be able to do what I do without my five core people that I rely on heavily. They market, door knock and support each other. We have the same vision and know where we are going and have the same work ethic. They consistently call me for the next steps. It’s crazy because when I do have the days that I don’t want to get out of bed, it is my team that I don’t want to disappoint. I now get out of bed because there are people that rely on me to get their businesses going. I surround myself with best because you are the 5 people you surround yourself with. Hang out with 5 crack heads and you will be the 5th. Hangout with 5 millionaires, you will be the 5th.

Millionaires not just rely on people and work with people, their whole business is people. If you’re not a people person, you have two options: become a people person or don’t go into business for yourself. If you have trust issues with people, don’t go into business. Business is for people who are willing to do the work, not just bark orders. I tell my people to go door knock that is only because I do it and still do it today. If you aren’t willing to do it, then you have no right to tell someone else to do it. A leader leads from the front. He/She is consistently learning and personal developing him or herself. To want the specific position in life, you have to act like it. If you want to keep that position, you have to be consist. Any business will need team members, do you want to be the team members or the boss with the team members? Which one makes more money?

  1. I agree with everything said.  Even in the corporate world it is all about team work and networking.

  2. in school we were all taught to do our

Own work.  In the investing work that is 100% wrong.    Good post
