10 Moving and Packing Tips To Make Your Move Dead Simple

Moving home is a great challenge that comes with lots of routine tasks. You need to plan everything to avoid delays and shorten the process as much as possible. The relocation experts prepared for you a handful of advices to facilitate your residence change.

Packing tips

Packing can be so annoying, especially if you have to pack every single piece of your belongings. But there are tips and life hacks that fasten the process and make it easier for you to transport and unpack everything.

  • Pack essentials in the separate oversleep bag

The process of relocation and unpacking can extend. And if you feel the need to relax right after the move-in and to deal with unpacking later, it would be nice to have the essentials next to you instead of looking for them in tons of boxes you packed.

  • Box your property, considering the future place of the item

Pack every item in the box considering the place it will take in your new house. So pack the item in the box with other things for this room.

  • Use colors to organize boxes

Enter the color code. Mark each box with the color reflecting the room this item is assigned to. For example, use blue for the bathroom boxes or orange for the boxes where kitchen items are packed.

  • Take pictures of your interior

If you want to make some elements of your new interior look the same as it was in the old house, take pictures of the element, especially of the arts and other décor items. Also, you will need the pictures of your electronics.

If you are renting an apartment picturing is vital. Before moving out make pictures of every room from each angle. It will help you to avoid unnecessary disputes with your landlord.

  • Put the heavy items in the rolling luggage

Put your books, magazines and other small but heavy items in the rolling luggage so it would be easy to move it around.

  • Don’t buy boxes and other packing materials

Wasting money on the packaging material is the biggest error of an inexperienced mover. Just visit some of your local stores and ask if they can give you their empty boxes. Sometimes they can even put aside some boxes for you.

  • Get rid of unnecessary items

Relocation is a perfect time to sort your property and get rid of everything you don’t need. You can sell the items that are in a good condition or give them to charity.

Common Moving tips

Besides packing, relocation process also contains of loading, furniture disassembling and furnishing of a new house. Performing these tasks, you need to remember some tips.

  • Research your moving company

First of all, choose the companies that are within your budget, shortlist the offers and research your winners. Check their rating in the official resources and ask for a license. Then examine the damage and refund policy. The right moving company can make the relocation flawless while an unfair one will spoil the experience together with your items.

Also try to look for the company with the office in the place you are moving to. For example, if you are relocating to Sacramento look for a company with the office in Sacramento.

  • Make lists

Lists are your life-savers during the whole relocation. Make them all the time. Compile the list of the equipment and tool you need to buy for the packing, loading and furniture disassembling. Also create a to-do list of all issues you need to resolve before the removal date.

  • Notify everyone in advance

If you are planning to use the help of your friends, relatives or to hire a baby-sitter, notify them a month before the moving-out date. They have to be prepared and have to adopt their schedule.

  • Plot a route

Before the moving, prepare a route that would be both fast and secure. While doing so, research the traffic situation to avoid gridlocks and make the transportation safe and sound. Also include necessary stops in the plan.

  • Plan B

Make a backup plan for every important issue, including the transportation and be prepared for the unexpected situations. You cannot foresee everything, so stay calm if something won’t go as planned.

  • Change address a week before moving out

If you want your mail to find you in the new place and you don’t want to miss any important letter, go to the post office at least a week before moving in. The paperwork for address change lasts 7-10 days.

  1. I imagine that everybody has had a situation when they moved where they realized that something they've needed is actually deep inside the bowels of another storage box somewhere, and that box isn't labelled! That's one of my biggest nightmares to be honest! I don't think people are capable of being thorough when it comes to labeling all of these moving boxes when it comes to a house removal!
