Moving to California - Planning Your Move

Are you lucky enough to move to California? So, this is where you can forget about heavy winter coats and boots and just chill on the ocean beach.

Although there are about 40 million people living here, there is always a place for breathing. Especially it’s true for beach towns where surfers are riding the waves.

But even if you chose one of metro areas as San Francisco, San Diego, Sacramento or Los Angeles, you won’t be deprived of elbow area. Just remember to adjust your schedule to the occasional gridlocks that usually occur in busy cities.

What should you arrange before the relocation day?

Together with the joy of the relocation or excitement of the changes that the relocation brings, you get plenty of red tape worries and other issues that you have to deal with before you move.

  • Taking care of address change details

Do you really want to worry about papers right after the move? Isn’t it better to celebrate the relocation with the good dinner and a glass of wine? If you like the second alternative more, take care of the address changing details in advance as it usually takes up to 7-10 days to complete the paperwork.

So, notify all your important contacts, bank, post office as well as favorite subscription magazines that your address is about to change.

  • Examine the usual traffic road situation

Plan your move to ensure that freeway traffic will be light. Research the situation for every region. For example, the heaviest traffic in California tends to be between 6 and 9 AM in the morning and between 3 to 7 PM in the evening.

The correct time planning will allow you to perform the relocation faster, reducing the price for the truck and movers in case the payment is hourly.

  • Insure free parking place

If you are moving to a metropolitan area you should be prepared to the crowded car parking. And even though you don’t need any moving van permits, it would be a smart move to ensure a “no parking” zone for the relocation date. It would help you unload the truck promptly.

To get the moving permit and “no parking” zone you need to contact the city council or a police department of the place you are going to move to as the rules vary from state to state.

First of all, decide what do you need from your mover. Do you only need a truck and several guys or you require a comprehensive service? The second type of service from the responsible moving partner will give you enough time to enjoy the relocation process as the movers and packers pack all your property, load it into the van and deliver to any destination point.

In any of destination cities, you can find a local company as a San Francisco moving company, or a company from San Diego. It’s better to hire a local company that knows the road situation and the city you are moving to. Before hiring check the company’s record with the Better Business Bureau. It will help prevent the possibility of any ramp.

  • Check the weather forecast

Yes, California is much warmer than most of the US states, but it is the third biggest state in the country so the weather depends greatly on the particular zone, altitude, etc. That is why always check the local forecast for the move-in date and be prepared.

It will help you to avoid heat exhaustion, dehydration or vice versa cold exposure and sudden snow at high altitudes.
