De West is a hoot to talk to and Tyler was super helpful and communicative in fixing all the maintenence concerns in my apartment. I will say if you dont already have a contact in managment its hard to get issues addressed. With that being said, the company also seems to be undergoing big managment and staff changes right now which isn't the fault of any individual person. I look forward to seeing how the response time and communication improves in the next year of my tenancy. At the end of that year in august of 2026, I will be updating this review to report if things improve or decline under the new managment.

I would highly recommend leasing with any other management company in Milwaukee. If any maintenance or problems occur with your rental it will take weeks to get as much as a response from management. We had a mouse infestation beginning in April, Bartsch refused to do as much as send out an exterminator for a full month and after an initial visit, after which we still had Mice, they never followed back up or had the exterminator come to the property again which the extermination company claimed was typical. Luckily our lease was up but then Bartsch proceeded to collect rent for the month after our move out date. 3 months later and countless emails and they are still yet to return that month of rent. I would have never rented from this company, was just unfortunate enough to have them buy out the building I was living in.

Absolutely the worst landlord experience I’ve ever had. They don’t answer calls, emails, or texts—radio silence unless you chase them nonstop. I was honestly shocked I even got my security deposit back because of how careless and unprofessional they are. I had to run around asking multiple people just to figure out what to do with my key. The building itself is falling apart under their “management.” Trash overflowed for weeks at a time, and even after I begged them to deal with it, they dragged their feet another week before touching it. Communication is nonexistent. They spammed me with lease renewal emails even after I had already moved out. On top of that, I’m pretty sure the rats are back. The previous landlord had taken care of them quickly and actually communicated, but under Bartsch the problems just sit and fester. When we were leaving, we could hear scratching inside the walls—disgusting. This company manages like they don’t care if tenants live in filth. If you don’t mind doing all the landlord’s work yourself, ignoring pests, and waiting forever for even the simplest fixes, then maybe you’ll survive here. Otherwise, avoid this place at all costs.

I moved into this apartment after leaving a difficult domestic situation, hoping for a safe and positive new start. Unfortunately, my experience here was very disappointing. Upon move-in, the carpets were dirty, the blinds were broken, and basic upkeep had not been done. Management took nearly two months to address the cigarette smoke from the unit below, and even after that, the issue was never fully resolved. When I referenced state housing laws in communication with the property manager DE WEST, her response was, “I hope you know that doesn’t scare me,” which was highly unprofessional and dismissive. Additionally, it took over a month to receive my security deposit back, far longer than what is standard. Overall, management was unprofessional, unresponsive, and failed to provide the safe and respectful living environment that tenants deserve. I would not recommend renting from this property.

The place that I viewed was very nice, clean. The young lady that did my tour was very polite, friendly and answered all my questions. After submitting my application I received a call right away from the office and that lady was also nice. My experience so far has been great.

Be prepared for them to take days to respond to your requests, dismiss and chastise routine maintenance. 30 days before I moved in, I requested the carpet to be cleaned. They insured me it would. A week before I moved in, I contacted them again to make sure that it was clean. I was told that it was. However when I moved in, the carpet was clearly dirty, amongst many other things. I have noticed several other routine concerns. I have been waiting a week, with no response to my concerns.

I would rate this management company as ZERO. Very disorganized and uncooperative with a major issue we had when attempting to move into our rental unit. After making arrangements to meet our leasing agent and confirm that everything was ready for our move-in date in June, we arrived to find that the unit was not cleaned and we were met at the door by someone that was hired to clean the place. It was so much more than just unclean, it was an unsafe environment with toxic black mold in the kitchen and air conditioning unit and extremely strong smell of urine throughout the apartment. The garage was still filled, floor to ceiling, with junk left behind from a previous tenant. After dealing with the agent, who was useless and couldn't answer any questions, and the manager of Bartsch that gave us so much push back regarding our safety & health concerns with this unit that we had to pack-up and reload all of the boxes we were moving into this unit back out without a resolution except to terminate our agreement with them. We were left stranded without another alternative. The cost and aggravation after nearly 5 hours of dealing with these people was a nightmare. Then, after several weeks of promises to return our money (being told the check was in the mail), I had to physically go to their offices to demand the return of our deposit. Extremely painful all around. I wish I would have checked with Better Business Bureau before signing any agreement with them. Their rating is very poor. Would never rent from them. If this is what they do with such an egregious issue, can't imagine how they would address common tenant issues.
