I was a tenant at one of their properties (Madison, NC), and my experience with Fortified Dreams Property Solutions was one of the worst I’ve ever had with any landlord or property manager. After moving out, they failed to return my security deposit within the 30-day legal window. Even though I was only seven days over in notifying them of my new address, both the landlord and the property manager acknowledged this and never suggested it would be an issue — until they suddenly decided to withhold my entire deposit with no valid reason or itemized statement. The landlord himself was eventually so frustrated with the situation and the lack of communication from Aleka (the property manager), that he personally stepped in and refunded me from his own pocket. Aleka had completely stonewalled both of us. She refused to respond to emails, calls, or even the landlord’s own messages. I have text records showing the landlord siding with me and expressing frustration that the management company was refusing to handle their responsibilities. To make matters worse, I was recovering from major surgery during this time. The stress of chasing down my deposit while dealing with post-op pain was indescribable. This wasn’t just mismanagement — it felt like deliberate obstruction and financial manipulation. You’ll notice a pattern if you read other reviews here. This company has repeatedly failed to maintain properties, communicate with tenants, and return deposits fairly. Mold, plumbing issues, refusal to respond to emergencies — it’s all there in other complaints too. I’ve filed with the NC DOJ and the NC Real Estate Commission. I truly wouldn’t wish this experience on anyone. Please take the warnings seriously. This is not how any tenant should be treated. Edit to the response: Calling my actions “harassment” is wild when I simply used every legal and ethical channel after Aleka ignored me for weeks, missed deadlines, and forced the owner himself to step in and refund me. She claims he was in anguish — I have the receipts that prove otherwise. He was nothing but understanding and cooperative. You can twist lease language all day, but at the end of the day your own client sided with me, not you. That says everything. If holding a company accountable is “childish,” maybe don’t give people a reason to. It’s laughable. And fun fact: North Carolina law actually encourages tenants to communicate directly with landlords when there's a dispute. The property manager works for the landlord — they don't get to gatekeep basic tenant rights. Glad I could teach you!
