College Decision and Advice
Hi everyone, I am a senior in high school in the East Bay Area and plan on going to college to either UC Berkeley or Cal Poly SLO. I have been really interested about getting into real estate because I see people around me live very comfortably and most importantly have the freedom to spend time with their families and enjoy their hobbies from being very invested in real estate. I have tried to reach out and talk to them about their journey but they have declined because they don't "want to give anything away" because a majority of them are trying to teach their children the same thing. I don't really know who to turn to and this decision has been really hard for me. My goal is to eventually own multifamily properties at a large scale but obviously I am just starting out so that could change but I know that's what people around me are very successful in. I know that it's not easy and takes a lot of time, effort, and drive to not give up but I am ready for that challenge and I am hungry to make a name for myself. I am a very social and active person and I just don't know if I can fit in a Berkeley but at the same time I am wondering if I am throwing a huge opportunity away going to Cal Poly and not Berkeley. My question is what would you guys do in my situation? Do you have any advice of what I could do in college that could set me up for success while I am there and after I graduate? How should I get started? Thank you for your time and if anyone could help me out by giving their input that would be super helpful and appreciated.

Try to buy something you can house hack. Get a property you can rent out a few rooms manage yourself. I'm a Cal Ploy grad myself and wish I had bought something. You're going to have to pay rent no matter where you go to school. Take business and finance classes and start going to local real estate meet-ups.
