Going to get started!
Hi everyone!
After analyzing houses on Redfin for a long while I am excited to get things going and start out this real estate investing journey. I live in the Bay Area, Ca and I'm looking to move out of the area (and my parents home), to buy a multi family (3plex or 4plex) so I can house hack using a FHA loan (possibly 203k).
I’ve looked all over the US in cities like Milwaukee, Houston, Indianapolis, Phoenix, Cleveland, and Portland. But after studying those areas, I’ve found some properties that would work, but I am not a huge fan of moving out of state (but not 100% against it). So I started looking into Stockton and Modesto before settling on Sacramento.
I’m still very fascinated with Portland and still considering a move there if I could find the right deal.
I’m currently in the process of getting pre-approved for a loan. I guess my main concern is moving away and starting a new life in an area that I don’t know much about. Is there anybody else that moved into their market where they wanted to invest and have any advice to make the transition smooth? Also any Sacramento or Portland investors willing to share any advice / connect?
Thanks everyone!

@George Adkins congrats on taking the leap!! Sacramento is a great market to move to coming from the bay area. I think you will find the properties are much more affordable than what you are going to see in the bay area, and the economic and population growth of the city as well as the sheer space has allowed for the greater Sac region to grow over the last few years.
I personally live in West Sac which I love because like you my family is from the bay area and its a quick shot across the causeway from my house than some of the deeper parts of sac such as Carmichael, Rocklin, or Folsom.
As far as available inventory in Sacramento its pretty light and its competitive at pretty much every price point but with a good game plan and willingness to get out there run your numbers and find something you can make it happen!
I'd also suggest giving this blog a read www.sacramentoappraisalblog.com IMO the best data driven Sacramento based real estate market blogs out there
Let me know if i can be of any help when you get out here or on your search!
