Hey everyone!
My name is Hilary Catton, and if you don't know me, I am the Director of Customer Success for this amazing site you're currently on, BiggerPockets!
My goal is to make BiggerPockets even more accessible, easy to understand, and up to date on the most current sites you all love to frequent. I want to make your time on BP as enjoyable as I can, and I would love your input on what changes we could make to better your time on our site.
What do you find confusing, or challenging on the site? Do feel navigating through the site could be better - how? Do you wish something was more in depth, and less broad?
I look forward to all your responses! BiggerPockets appreciate you all!
Is there a way to save a blog post you really like or want to refer to later? I'd like to have a favorites or save button so I could save forum posts, blog posts and even podcasts that I want to refer to again later. Thanks!
One of my issues is not being able to connect with someone through the mobile app. I have to use my laptop but then I forget lol
I guess just making the app better.
I love this site, but there is one thing that really irks me, and that's the amount of posts that are just peoples incorrect assumptions or even straight-up lies, rather than actual information. I think most landlords with experience see right through it, but for some less experienced members it could be a very expensive lesson, or, as I saw in one recent forum about asbestos, for example, even be detrimental to their health.
For this reason I'd like to add to @Eric M.'s suggestion and say that you might want to take a page out of Reddit's book. I think it would be nice if the more votes a post got, the higher up in the forum the post would show. It would also be nice to have a downvote button for those posts that are obviously false or just plain bad advice. That way, the best advice would float to the top, and all the misinformation would be lost at the bottom.
I use an Android Note 4, the app certainly seems developed for Apple users. I'd like to see a little more compatability with android, especially in the texting fields. anyone else noticing that or just me? basic functions like auto capitalizing words, punctuations, having o scroll very far to see send bars etc.
I'm not sure if this has been mentioned, but I would like to see members with a profile that has been inactive for a year or more be moved to a "special location". I believe it hinders the growth of the community.
@Hilary C. - I'd like a version of the BRRRR Calculator specific for a Lease-Option on the front end that leads to a conventional financed purchase on the backend after X number of months. Also, I often have a very hard time using the top menu on my Droid Tablet and Phone. Further, I cannot seem to find BP Podcasts before #140 on Sticher (Why?) - so I have to listen to them via your App, which does not link with the audio controls of my car like the Sticher App does. I therefore have to fumble with my phone to pause / rewind and no auto-pause or mute when a call comes in - so it is not as safe or convenient when driving as using Sticher.
A major one is implementing the ability to use tags on the mobile app. I'm on android and the app does not register when I try to tag someone so they don't get notified of my post.
I am using the BRRR calculator and the question comes into play when you download the PDF report and review the doc. There is not a location where it shows the number of bedrooms, bathrooms...etc. I would like to see more of the property features listed on the 3rd page of the report.
In addition to this I would like to see the Tools go back to school and get an advanced degree in Business and Research technology! I would like to see more business management components added, possibly some marketing material added, and last but not least I would like to see a direct link to the MLS for comps and more critical information regarding properties. I think as Pro and Plus members, we have paid long enough for BETA testing...It is time to take it up a few notches! @Hilary C.
Hey Hilary Catton
Thanks for taking the time to pick our brains for possible improvement ideas. I am relatively new to BP, but there is one thing I think would improve functionality. When a user clicks reply to a forum post, it opens in a new empty screen. Would it be possible to show the thread as the user responds(similar to responding to a gmail message for example) so they can easily refer back to the previous posts while writing a response? Thanks for your help!
A suggestion: there should be a "dislike" feature for listings in the marketplace where the user is clearly exaggerating the rehab costs and the resale costs of their "deal." After 2-3 "dislikes," that listing should automatically be deleted.
@Hilary C. I sent a suggestion to Josh and Brandon a week ago. The calculators should have a button at the end of the analysis that allows you to see what your deal would look like if it were calculated as a different strategy. For example, I ran the numbers as a buy and hold, then click an option to calculate as a wholesale or fix n flip. That way you can determine what option would determine the best strategy.
Hi Hilary. I work with a lot sites. Here's my top issues that are keeping me from joining as a pro:
Terrible mobile app Why does the prompt need to come up every time I launch on iOS? Why does the search assume I'm one and done on search results?
Desktop-only website Required navigation at the top of the screen requires submenus, making it inaccessible from touch-based, tablet or phone browsers. This cripples my use of the site from iPad or other tablets that I use daily in my R/E work.
Confusing Forum Categories For a beginner-based real estate site there are far too many categories and presented in a flat hierarchy rather than walking the user through progressive choices. Feels as if categories grew organically but then never actually were revisted and refined later on. This makes it hard to browse content to find what you are looking for.
Hard to Connect I need a home inspector in Detroit. How do I find him/her? Top level categories are little help in knowing where to begin finding qualified referrals. I don't need an ad, but given the strong communiy it would be good to be able to filter through the flat list of posts in the contractors or professionals forums to find folks who are local and have been actively posting off the forums.
That it for now. Love the podcast. Find the forums have great potential, but obscured by sprawling sub-categories and complex navigation.
@Kevin Porter , the calculators DO have the ability to allow you to analyze the deal a different way.
Go to the calculator and fill in all the information. From the last page, there is a button that says "More Actions". Clicking it will give you a drop down menu, one choice is Reanalyze this report as...
And clicking that button will give you a choice of three other calculators to run it through.
Every time I post a new reply in the app on iPhone the bigger pickets app crashes. The posts are still uploaded but it crashes and I have to reopen it!
I have a lot of problems with the app. I can't see messages of people that I have had a long conversation with.
Also, I will reply to people's posts with the app and it will all of a sudden say "error" and I will lose everything I typed up. I would like to see the app get better.
Thanks!
Thanks for taking the time to survey the BP audience comments and suggestions.
I just have a question about the BP award badges that seemed to have changed a few months ago. When I last checked (maybe back in late August or September) there were a slew of other badges featured on the Awards Page.
For example the following badges no longer show up on the current Awards page: Narc, Cop, First Responder, etc. And it looks like these badges that are no longer featured on the awards page still show up on peoples' profiles.
So my question to you is...will these awards be coming back? Will the ones already awarded stay grandfathered in on member's profiles? Should we no longer strive towards achieving previous awards? Would be curious to know either way.
1. A lot of people seems to be looking to build their team (e.g. lawyer, plumber, realtor) in their areas. So maybe the ability to set up a directory with a radius zip code search can help. Or make the search feature more prominent and/or user friendly on the website.
2. Seems like some of the posts in the forums just randomly shows up as I scroll down - even though it is not new. I'm using chrome.
I'm sure you have been flooded with ideas and all types of suggestions, comments and complaints, all kinds of wants and wishes.....It would be wrong if I didnt express my gratitude for it all! Sooo while we are on the subject I will add one more!
I'd like to have the ability to message all of my connected colleagues at one time and a spell check.
