Part Time Real Estate Agent

Hey community,

Need your help here, I am looking to make a side income by becoming a part time real estate agent in Chicago.  I currently have a full time job that I do not expect to leave anytime soon.  For those who are part time agents, what is realistic in terms of earnings per year.  I have read that most brokers do not like to hire part time agents and that it is actually frowned upon in the industry by other agents but excluding those factors, what would you say has been your experience being a part time agent???

PS - I just want to focus on commercial properties such as hotels, motels, gas stations, apt complex's and so on - is it possible to do this as a part time agent?

I am studying for the test now.

Thanks for your help.

Rob

I tell everyone: part-time effort results in part-time success.

I personally think it's a waste of time to dabble in real estate. I'm sure you'll find some clients that are gullible enough to use you but savvy clients, particularly real estate investors with half a brain, will prefer to work with someone that dedicates their time and energy to the business. If I had to choose between you and a full-time agent that shows up to the office every day, you'll be my last choice ever time.

You can make some money but you could also make money working extra hours at your current job or taking a second job pumping gas and flipping burgers. Most new agents quit within their first two years because it's not easy to make a living. If you don't need to make a living, you can work hard as a part-time agent and make some decent side money for investing. Just don't expect to be selling a lot.
